    What makes the mk1 different?

    The Sunderland mk1 has several unique features that make it worthy to add to any serious pen collection or be the start of a new one.

    The Patent Pending Thread-On Cap:

    Our market research indicated that most pen enthusiasts prefer a screw-on cap; however, having exposed threads on the grip can be unsightly and uncomfortable to hold.  To solve these issues, we designed the threads to be hidden inside the tip of the pen, unexposed to the user.

    The Machined Clip:

    There are a lot of nice pens available, but most use a formed sheet metal clip.  We really wanted to avoid using stamped sheet metal parts on a high-quality pen, so we put extra effort into the design and manufacturing of the clip on the mk1: It is machined from a block of aerospace grade, 17-4 stainless steel.  This is the same material commonly used for jet engine components.  The clip was designed to take advantage of the extreme strength of this material, while maintaining the flexibility required for a functional clip.

    Designing the clip around a machined component gave us the opportunity to add features that are both decorative and functional. The clip flute adds style and was also used to help tune the stiffness of the clip.

    The Patriot Pen is a lightweight, unique tool that doesn’t just write well—It looks killer doing it. The Patriot Pen is machined from high-quality military grade 6063 aluminum. It’s anodized black, achieving a rugged Type III hardness, and is sure to handle the abuse of even the toughest user.

    The Patriot grip comes in two finishes. For the rugged manly man we offer a knurled finish for an extra grip-tight hold. If you are a stealthy special ops type of guy you have the smooth finish which is ideal for prolonged writing situations. Either way you will find yourself knee deep in pure manliness.

    Quick Facts

    • The refill is the popular Pilot® Dr. Grip refill. Available at nearly any local pen store, this refill is easy on the wallet and comes in a variety of colors and tip sizes. We are offering it in Black and Blue inks with a .7mm writing tip.
    • The pocket clip is powder coated spring steel.
    • The two clip screws are coated with Loctite® for a hassle free long life.
    • The pen itself is three pieces: the cap, the grip and the body. Each piece is a precision-machined hunk of metal that is a beauty to behold.

    THE DESIGN

    As a designer and someone that loves to travel I often find myself in need of a pen for quickly sketching an idea, making a list, or filling out the inevitable form.

    These pens are made from the classic combination of 304 stainless steel and brass; the metals helped define the design and provided the inspiration for the pure, clean aesthetic. Every part is functional and simplified to the extreme. These pens utilize the raw metal’s natural characteristics and native colors to produce the detail accents of the tip and end screw.

    These precision machined parts fit together so perfectly that the parting line between the pen barrel and cap virtually disappear, resulting in an object that hides its identity until it’s used.

    Despite their small size, the precise fit and weight of the raw metals make them feel substantial, solid, and nice to handle.

    While I love the purity of this design on its own, I often have to measure things for my work, so I added both metric and imperial measurement scales on the PRO version. I have found this added function to be incredibly useful and right there where you need it.

    As a fan of capped pens (pen with a cap), we find that the major problem with capped pens are when the cap is lost (Arfi’an and I have lost pen caps many times. How about you?), no matter how expensive the pen is; it will be almost useless without its cap.

    With that in mind, we have come up with an idea to make a high-end and well engineered pen that never loses its cap. After a long development journey, we came to our final design of a pen that cannot be separated from its cap, not a clicky pen, and doesn’t show any thread.

    The PuterPen is made out of solid Aluminum Alloy + Stainless Steel (G and H edition) and Titanium (GTi and HTi edition) with CNC machining process.
