    I’m very excited to introduce to you my project, THE MOVE PEN. It is a mini bolt-action EDC (Every Day Carry) pen that I think you will love. I’m an avid collector of writing instruments and have been inspired by the many pen projects on Kickstarter over the years. For the last couple of years, I have been making efforts to come up with my own pen design that is both practical and unique.

    I decided to design an EDC pen because I have not been able to find one that meets my needs on the market. I think an attractive high quality pen that can be carried easily with us everyday is something that most of us need. I also enjoy the additional challenges involved with designing a true EDC pen given the additional limitations on weight and size.

    THE MOVE PEN is unique in the fact that it manages to have a bolt-action mechanism while being extremely lightweight and compact. It is a true EDC pen with a keychain/lanyard attachment point. It is machined out of 6061-T6 Aluminum and hard anodized (Matte finish). I decided to make it out of Aluminum Alloy instead of Stainless Steel, Titanium or Brass because it offers the best combination of cost, strength and weight. I chose the bolt-action mechanism for its ruggedness and reliability and because it is just fun to fidget with. The pen is designed to work exclusively with a standard LAMY M22 Refill. It is the only high quality standard refill that is compact enough to meet the design requirements.

    5)  Pen floats in water.  Great for boating or for those working near water.  We recommend the Fisher refills that write when upside down and underwater for optimal performance in a Marine environment.  Note, if you put a heavy items in the storage container, then you will need to confirm it still floats by testing in a glass or sink first.

    About the TTi-120 Pen

    Design of the pen began in early February 2012.

    In June of that year the first sample was finished.

    After some minor tweaks and changes over the next months, the final prototype was finished in September of 2013.

    Now, we would like to introduce it to the public.

    The TTi-120 is sure to become a classic.

    My Story

    I’m not a fan of large pens and I love Titanium.  So where can I find a small Titanium Pen?  I couldn’t find a small pen that had any decent writing refill.  There are other Titanium pens on the market but are just too large for me, or EXPENSIVE!  So I set out to make a pen that I like.

    After my previous Kickstarter projects I was able to buy a small CNC Lathe for my garage, I bought it just for this project.  My Goal is to make the “Perfect” Titanium Pen, but also to make the pen affordable for Kickstarter Backers.  I want to get this pen in your hands, so you can see and feel the beauty of it for yourself. 🙂

    Yes, the TiPeN™ really is 100% made in my garage, in a small town in Iowa.

    The blue-green [ Glow ] you see in the cap of the Titanium [ FireFly ] Pen in the pictures below were taken in low light situations after the Glow Insert was charged with a flashlight.
    Writing is an experience.  The flow of words on any medium is your thoughts, your ideas, your memories, your hellos and goodbyes that are manifesting into existence…becoming real.

    I love pens and I love flashlights and I love glow-in-the-dark products. A flashlight requires power, glow materials do not…they are charged by the light around us…it just seem a natural evolution to meld a pen with the elements of light.

    I have been creating designs on 2D CAD and out of my garage for the last 20 years.  When the capabilities of 3D CAD started to show promise I was intrigue.  3D software became another toy to play with and to develop designs…then came the ability to 3D print products…things started to really come together.  Designs that were not possible in a conventional  garage workshop, became a possibility with 3D software and sending it off to a 3D printer.

    3D software allowed me to conceptualize the wildest things.

    The first versions of the FireFly was designed on the computer and printed in 3D plastic.  But the ability to print it in metal was not refined enough at this time unless you used silver which was way to expensive and the plastic was not tough enough.

    1215 – The Inspiration behind

    In today’s rapidly changing digital world I find comfort in having a few fine objects in my life that are tactile and sensual to the touch. I would like to share this object with you, the Twelve-Fifteen. It has been designed as a modern interpretation of the Quill and Ink well from a time not so long ago.

    Quills were the writing instruments of our forefathers for hundreds of years.  When I am writing, sketching, creating with this pen, it reminds me of a romantic time when information was transferred at a much different pace. One with intimacy and meaning. For me there is no better way to capture my thoughts than with a pen. The flow of ink onto paper, has a tactile quality that slows down time, allowing me to gather my thoughts, questions and Ideas.

    Twelve-Fifteen “1215” the name given to this object is derived from the year that the Magna Carta, written with a Quill, was presented to King John of England by the Barons of the land. They had had enough of his oppressive ways and demanded change, using the pen to trump his swords. This Magna Carta, or Great Charter has been referred to by historians as one of the leading documents to shape the western world we live in today. In fact the American Declaration of Independence,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Declaration_of_Independence, is said to be built upon some of the same rules put unto King John back in the Thirteenth century.

    The inscription on the Ink well of “1215” is positioned in the fashion of compass headings. The intention of this arrangement is to remind the user, that you are in control of your path, direction and destiny in life. With this pen, I ask you to take the time to write where it is you want to go, what you want to do, what is your Magna Carta?
